The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced a revision in fares, marking the first hike in several years. The new rates, effective immediately, will see passengers paying slightly more for their daily commutes.
According to the revised structure, the minimum fare has increased from ₹10 to ₹11, while the maximum fare has gone up from ₹60 to ₹64. On the Airport Express Line, the fares have been raised by ₹5. This adjustment applies across categories and is expected to impact lakhs of daily passengers who rely on the metro for travel across Delhi and the National Capital Region.
DMRC officials stated that the fare revision was necessary to manage rising operational costs, including electricity, maintenance, and staff expenses. Despite the increase, the metro body said it remains one of the most affordable and efficient modes of transport in the capital, with subsidies and government support continuing to offset higher costs.
Passengers, however, expressed mixed reactions. While some commuters said the marginal hike was manageable given the metro’s reliability, others noted that the increase would add up for regular travelers, particularly those who commute long distances daily.
This is the first fare hike since 2017, when DMRC had carried out a two-phase revision. The corporation emphasized that the new pricing was essential to maintain service quality, expand infrastructure, and meet growing demand.
With over 60 lakh passengers using the network every day, the fare hike is expected to have a widespread impact on Delhi’s transport landscape.
