Desk Correspondent , New Delhi - The Delhi government has taken a big step to fight the rising air pollution by ordering half of its staff to work from home. This decision comes as the city continues to breathe very poor air that has reached dangerous levels. By keeping fifty percent of employees off the roads, the authorities hope to reduce the number of vehicles and lower the smoke in the air. This rule applies to many government offices, as the city tries every possible way to clear the thick, grey smog.

Public and private companies are also being encouraged to follow these new guidelines to help the environment. Many residents are finding it hard to travel and stay healthy because the air quality has stayed in the "severe" zone for days. Schools have already shifted to online classes for most students to keep children safe from the toxic atmosphere. This latest move shows how serious the situation has become, as the government struggles to find a balance between daily life and public health.

While the work-from-home plan is a helpful move, many people feel that more needs to be done to solve the root cause of the pollution. The minister in charge mentioned that reducing traffic is just one part of a much larger battle against the winter haze. For now, millions of workers will be staying indoors, using their computers to finish their tasks without stepping into the polluted streets. Everyone is hoping for stronger winds or a bit of rain to finally wash away the dangerous chemicals from the sky.
