New Delhi, August 25, 2025 — Heavy rains lashed Delhi-NCR on Monday, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a yellow alert for the region. The alert warns of moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms in parts of Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad.
The downpour caused significant traffic snarls during the morning rush hours, with waterlogging reported in low-lying areas such as Minto Bridge, ITO, and several stretches of Gurugram. Commuters faced long delays as vehicles crawled on waterlogged roads.
Air travel was also impacted, with major carriers including IndiGo and Air India issuing advisories to passengers. Both airlines urged travelers to check flight status before leaving for the airport, citing weather-related disruptions. Several domestic flights were delayed at Indira Gandhi International Airport, while some departures were rescheduled.
The IMD has forecast more showers in the coming 24 hours, urging residents to remain cautious, especially in flood-prone zones. Authorities have deployed traffic personnel in vulnerable spots to manage congestion and assist stranded commuters.
Experts note that the rainfall has helped bring down soaring temperatures, providing relief after weeks of humid conditions. However, the combination of poor drainage and continuous rain remains a challenge for city infrastructure.
