Delhi and its neighboring regions are grappling with worsening air quality as five monitoring stations have recorded the Air Quality Index (AQI) crossing 300, entering the “very poor” or worse category. According to the report, multiple areas in Delhi-NCR are now facing hazardous levels of particulate pollution, endangering public health and prompting widespread concern among residents.

Experts attribute the rapid decline in air quality to a combination of factors: rising vehicular emissions, construction dust, industrial pollutants, and seasonal meteorological conditions such as low wind speed and stable atmosphere that trap pollutants close to the ground. The onset of winter-like weather patterns and post-monsoon stagnation have exacerbated the situation, allowing particulate matter to accumulate.

Health authorities warn that exposure under such conditions can aggravate respiratory illnesses, cause eye irritation, and affect vulnerable groups including children, the elderly, and those with pre-existing lung conditions. Citizens are being urged to limit outdoor activities, wear masks (preferably N95 or equivalent), and use air purifiers indoors where possible.
