Ananya Lohia , New Delhi - The Delhi High Court on Tuesday allowed activist Sonam Wangchuk to be shifted from Safdarjung Hospital to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, granting relief to his family while directing that his medical treatment continue without interruption.

Hearing a plea filed by Wangchuk's wife, Gitanjali Angmo, a division bench directed Safdarjung Hospital to immediately transfer all medical records to Medanta and instructed the private hospital to constitute a team of specialist doctors to monitor his condition. The Centre raised no objection to the transfer during the hearing.

Wangchuk was taken to Safdarjung Hospital by Delhi Police after being removed from the Cockroach Janta Party protest site at Jantar Mantar during his indefinite hunger strike. The activist, who has been fasting over alleged examination irregularities, continues to decline intravenous fluids, while doctors said his condition remains under close medical observation.

The High Court's order ensures Wangchuk can continue treatment at a hospital of his choice as his prolonged hunger strike enters its next phase.
