Ananya Lohia , Delhi - The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Delhi, forecasting more rain and thunderstorms on Wednesday after heavy showers caused waterlogging and severe traffic disruptions across the National Capital Region.

According to the IMD, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds of up to 40 kmph is expected throughout the day, with multiple spells likely from morning to night. Similar weather conditions are forecast for Thursday, while light rain is expected to continue through Friday and Saturday. The latest spell of rain follows Tuesday's heavy downpour, triggered by a low-pressure system and a western disturbance. The showers flooded several parts of Delhi and Gurugram, leading to major traffic jams, including on the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway.

In Gurugram, a road cave-in further disrupted traffic, prompting police to advise companies to allow employees to work from home. While the rain brought relief from soaring temperatures, Delhi had recorded its highest July maximum and minimum temperatures in two years earlier this week before the weather changed.

With more rain expected over the next few days, authorities have advised residents to remain cautious, avoid waterlogged areas, and plan their travel accordingly to minimise weather-related disruptions.
