Indian chess prodigy D Gukesh, who recently became the youngest-ever World Chess Champion, has credited legendary grandmaster Viswanathan Anand for playing a crucial role in his journey.

Sharing his experience, Gukesh said that Anand’s timely advice helped him stay composed during a demanding tournament. “I had 11 games to play, and his guidance on how to manage pressure and focus on each move proved invaluable,” he noted.

The 18-year-old grandmaster explained that Anand’s mentorship gave him clarity not just in terms of strategy but also in handling the mental stress of competing at the highest level. “He taught me to trust my instincts and stay patient,” Gukesh added.
