Ranit Kr. Singh , Kolkata – A major factional feud within the Cooch Behar district Congress escalated significantly on Sunday. Angered by recent developments, a large group of party workers and supporters gathered outside the district Congress office and broke the locks to force their way inside. The incident has highlighted deep-seated internal divisions and growing discontent against the local leadership, causing a stir within the regional political landscape.
The agitation was primarily directed against the Cooch Behar district Congress President, Biswajit Sarkar. On Saturday afternoon, the protesting workers had convened a press conference directly in front of the office to publicly voice their grievances. They alleged that a critical meeting had been scheduled for Sunday, but Sarkar, fearing confrontation, had deliberately locked the party office. They also claimed that the office is supposed to remain open daily from 8 AM to 8 AM, but the president chose to shutter it to serve his personal interests, which ultimately prompted them to break open the locks.
During their statements to the media, the disgruntled workers leveled serious allegations against Sarkar, accusing him of using the Congress platform to provide political leverage to the BJP. "Biswajit Sarkar only surfaces when elections approach and completely disappears once they are over," the protesters stated. They further added, "The district office belongs to the party and its workers, but the president locked it to fulfill his own selfish motives, leaving us with no other choice but to break the locks and enter."
