Concern Grows Over Sonam Wangchuk's Health as Hunger Strike Enters Day 17

Ananya Lohia , Delhi - Concern is mounting over the health of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk as his indefinite hunger strike entered its 17th day. Political leaders and supporters from across the country have urged him to end the fast, citing his rapidly deteriorating condition.

According to Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke, Wangchuk has lost 8.5 kilograms, is suffering from muscle loss and severe weakness, while his blood pressure has dropped to 109/70. Despite repeated appeals, Wangchuk has refused to call off the protest, saying the government should initiate dialogue instead of asking him to end his fast.

The hunger strike has received support from leaders across party lines, including Mahua Moitra, Atishi, Uddhav Thackeray and CPI(M) leaders, all of whom have expressed concern over his health while backing his demands. The protesters are seeking Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation, compensation for families of students who allegedly died by suicide over exam irregularities, and have announced a peaceful march to Parliament on July 20.

As Sonam Wangchuk's health continues to deteriorate, pressure is mounting on the government to engage in dialogue, even as supporters intensify calls for him to end his fast.
