Shimla – Heavy rainfall triggered multiple cloudbursts and flash floods across Himachal Pradesh, forcing the closure of at least 325 roads and disrupting normal life. Authorities have issued a “very heavy rain” warning for three districts, urging residents to remain indoors and avoid landslide-prone areas.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has identified Kangra, Mandi, and Chamba as the districts at highest risk over the next 48 hours. Local officials report that many remote villages have been cut off due to damaged roads, with emergency teams working to restore connectivity and deliver essential supplies.
Flash floods have also damaged bridges, washed away vehicles, and caused soil erosion in several regions. State disaster response teams, assisted by police and volunteers, are engaged in rescue and relief operations. No official death toll has been confirmed yet, but several injuries and cases of missing persons have been reported.
Authorities have advised tourists to postpone travel plans to affected areas, especially in high-altitude zones. The state’s power supply has been partially disrupted due to damage to electricity poles and transformers.
Himachal Pradesh, which is prone to monsoon-related disasters, has been experiencing above-average rainfall this season, increasing the risk of landslides and flooding. Officials say monitoring systems are on high alert to respond quickly to any escalation.
Relief camps have been set up in the most affected regions, with food, water, and medical aid being distributed to evacuees.
