CJI Gavai says Supreme Court will review order on stray dog relocation

Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud Gavai has indicated that the Supreme Court will revisit its earlier order concerning the relocation of stray dogs. The matter came up after concerns were raised about the implementation of the directive and its possible impact on public safety and animal welfare.

The relocation order had sparked debate among civic bodies, animal rights groups, and residents, with some arguing it was necessary to address increasing dog bite incidents, while others stressed the importance of humane treatment and vaccination drives.

CJI Gavai remarked that the court would take a closer look at the situation to ensure that any action balances community safety with ethical considerations for animals. The review is expected to involve discussions with relevant authorities and stakeholders before any revised decision is issued.
