Chand Mera Dil Opens Slow At Box Office, Earns ₹2.90 Crore On Day 1

Ananya Lohia , Mumbai - Chand Mera Dil, starring Ananya Panday and Lakshya, finally hit theatres on May 22 after facing multiple delays. Backed by Dharma Productions and directed by Vivek Soni, the romantic drama had generated curiosity among audiences because of its fresh pairing and unconventional storyline. However, mixed-to-negative reviews seem to have affected the film’s opening-day performance at the box office.

According to trade website Sacnilk, Chand Mera Dil collected around ₹2.90 crore net in India on its first day across 4944 shows. While the opening is considered below expectations for a big-banner Dharma Productions release, the film still performed better than Ek Din starring Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi. Produced by Aamir Khan, Ek Din had earned ₹1.15 crore nett on day one and has so far managed around ₹4 crore nett in India. However, Chand Mera Dil could not match the opening of Ananya Panday’s previous theatrical release Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri, co-starring Kartik Aaryan, which had opened at ₹7.75 crore. Trade analysts now believe the film’s weekend performance will be crucial, as romantic dramas usually depend heavily on positive word-of-mouth.

The film follows Chandni and Aarav, who meet during college in Hyderabad and fall in love before dealing with an unplanned pregnancy and marriage. Their relationship later turns turbulent under emotional pressure, with one violent argument becoming the central conflict of the story. A review noted that the film’s portrayal of love, mistakes and second chances is “complicated and messy,” making it a conversation starter despite its flaws.

With a modest opening and mixed audience reactions, Chand Mera Dil now faces an important weekend at the box office. The coming days will determine whether the film can recover through audience support and word-of-mouth or continue struggling amid criticism.
