British content creator Sam Pepper has admitted that a fireworks stunt in New Delhi during Diwali went awry and injured a young girl. The 36-year-old was livestreaming a “firecracker battle” with local participants when one of the rockets he fired struck an eight-year-old girl, suffering what was initially feared to be much worse damage. In viral clips, locals confronted Pepper, claiming the girl had lost an eye. Pepper responded in disbelief, saying, “No it hasn’t!” and later claimed the injury was just a cut above her eyebrow.
Pepper expressed remorse in a statement: “I feel very ashamed of my actions and regret not thinking more carefully. I’m sorry to the girl I hurt… I love India.” He added that his team had covered all medical costs for the girl, stating she received a “paper stitch” and was now resting at home.
