A major accident was reported in Hamirpur after a strong storm caused an under-construction bridge to collapse. Several workers are feared trapped under the debris, and at least six deaths are suspected.
The incident took place when sudden strong winds and heavy rain hit the area, leading to the structure giving way. Many labourers were reportedly working at the site at the time of the collapse.
Rescue teams, along with police and disaster response personnel, rushed to the spot immediately and started relief operations. Locals also tried to help before emergency services arrived.
Officials said that rescue work is still underway and the exact number of casualties will be confirmed after clearing the debris completely. Injured workers have been taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Authorities have ordered an inquiry into the incident to check possible negligence or construction flaws. Compensation for affected families is expected to be announced.
The accident has raised serious concerns about safety standards at construction sites during extreme weather conditions.
