Swapna Kumbar , Bengaluru - In a significant development for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tamil Nadu, the party leadership has accepted the resignation of former state president K. Annamalai from its primary membership. The decision was confirmed by BJP national general secretary and Tamil Nadu in-charge Nitin Nabin, three days after Annamalai submitted his resignation to the party's top leadership in New Delhi.
The development follows a series of high-level meetings held on June 2 between Annamalai and senior BJP leaders, including Union Home Minister , BJP Tamil Nadu in-charge Nitin Nabin, and national general secretary . During these discussions, Annamalai reportedly handed over his resignation letter, citing personal and political reasons. The party leadership subsequently reviewed the matter before formally accepting his resignation.
Annamalai, a former IPS officer who joined the BJP in 2020, quickly emerged as one of the party's most prominent faces in Tamil Nadu. As state president, he led several statewide campaigns and worked to expand the BJP's presence in a state traditionally dominated by regional parties. His resignation has triggered widespread political speculation regarding his future role in public life and the BJP's strategy in Tamil Nadu ahead of upcoming electoral contests. While party leaders have not disclosed further details, they have thanked Annamalai for his contributions to the organization.
The acceptance of Annamalai's resignation marks a notable moment for the BJP's Tamil Nadu unit. As the party looks to strengthen its position in the state, attention will now turn to its next leadership decisions and Annamalai's future political plans.
