In Bengaluru Rural’s Attibele area, police have launched a search for the driver of a mini goods vehicle accused of intentionally running over and killing a pregnant stray dog. The horrific incident took place on the morning of September 21 in Indlabele village, near the home of animal welfare advocate Shweta Singh.

According to Singh, she frequently feeds stray dogs in her neighbourhood. She claimed that the dog was lying asleep in the centre of the village’s main road when the vehicle approached. Despite clearly seeing it, the driver allegedly made no attempt to avoid or slow down, and instead drove directly over the animal, which died on the spot.

The case has drawn outrage from local residents and animal welfare groups, demanding swift action. Meanwhile, the Attibele police are investigating, though progress has been slow. Singh provided a licence plate number, but inquiries revealed that it corresponds to a different vehicle — leading the police to suspect fake or duplicated number plates may have been used.
