A 19-year-old BBA student from Bengaluru, identified as Sana Parveen, tragically died by suicide on Friday at her residence in Bagalur, northeast Bengaluru. Reports suggest that Sana had been enduring alleged harassment and blackmail by a senior student named Refaas, a graduate from the same college. Her father, a civil contractor from Madikeri, stated that Sana had confided in her family about the repeated harassment. Despite approaching college faculty with her complaints, and the faculty reportedly warning Refaas to cease contact, the harassment allegedly continued. Unable to cope with the ongoing pressure, Sana took the extreme step of ending her life.
The police have registered a case of abetment to suicide against Refaas, who is currently absconding. Investigations are underway to ascertain the full extent of the alleged harassment and to locate the accused.
This incident has sparked outrage and concern about student safety and the handling of harassment cases within educational institutions. It underscores the urgent need for colleges to implement robust mechanisms to address student grievances and ensure a safe environment for all.
