Desk Correspondent , Kolkata - Politics in West Bengal is now mainly became a contest between the TMC and BJP, not leaving a space for other parties and even for the Congress. As West Bengal is moving closer to the 2026 Assembly elections, the political battle is once again shaping up between the ruling TMC and the opposition BJP. In this contest , the left front led by Communist Party Of India (Marxist) is really trying to find its footing after years declining the influence.
A dominant force in Bengal politics, the Left has struggled to regain its mass base, with elections increasingly turning into a direct TMC vs BJP fight. Despite raising key issues like unemployment, price rise, and governance, the Left has found it difficult to break through the strong political narrative set by the two major parties. However, it continues efforts to rebuild its organisation, especially among youth and grassroots workers. Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, who has taken office in November 2000, was able to maintain calm in his early years of the tenure, but the situation change when he was pushed for new industries.
With elections approaching, the big question remains whether the Left can make a meaningful comeback or continue to stay on the sidelines. As campaigning picks up pace, all eyes will be on whether Bengal witnesses a shift in its political dynamics or remains a bipolar contest dominated by TMC and BJP.
