New Delhi, August 22 — The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to bring changes to the senior men’s selection committee by replacing two members from Ajit Agarkar’s panel. The move comes soon after the selection of the Asia Cup squad, which reportedly created divisions within the committee.
According to sources, the BCCI has already issued a notice inviting applications for the posts. While Agarkar will continue as the chairman of selectors, two of his colleagues will be relieved of their duties once replacements are finalised. The decision is seen as part of the board’s effort to strengthen the panel ahead of a packed international calendar, including the Champions Trophy 2025 and the upcoming World Cup cycle.
Officials said the change was aimed at ensuring a “fresh perspective” in team selection. Names of potential candidates are expected to emerge in the coming weeks, with preference likely to be given to former cricketers with strong domestic and international experience.
The development follows growing scrutiny over recent selection calls, including the omission of senior players and debates around captaincy succession.
BCCI sources clarified that the move is not linked to any individual player’s selection but is part of a broader restructuring process.
