Ananya Lohia, Kolkata – The alleged rape and murder of a 12-year-old girl in Baruipur has sparked a fierce political battle in West Bengal, with leaders across party lines rushing to the victim's family as public outrage continues to grow.
Former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took part in a candlelight march near her Kalighat residence after reportedly being stopped from visiting Baruipur. A Trinamool Congress delegation later met the grieving family, assuring them of full support and demanding the immediate arrest of all those responsible. Sen said ex-CM Banerjee had been placed under house arrest since Sunday. "She tried to go to Baruipur alone but was stopped without any reason.
The tragedy has also triggered political exchanges within the ruling party. Rebel TMC MPs publicly urged Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari to ensure swift justice, while leaders from the CPM, Congress and SUCI accused the administration of failing to act in time after the girl was reported missing.
As the Special Investigation Team intensifies its probe, the case has become more than a criminal investigation—it has turned into a major political flashpoint, with every party demanding justice and accountability. Amid rising protests and mounting public anger, all eyes are now on the investigation and whether it delivers swift action against the accused.
