Bareilly On High Alert: Drones Deployed, Internet Suspended for 48 Hours

In view of rising communal tensions and anticipated unrest around Dussehra, the Uttar Pradesh government has imposed a strict security clampdown in Bareilly and surrounding districts.

Beginning at 3 pm on October 2 until 3 pm on October 4, mobile internet, broadband, and SMS services in Bareilly district will remain suspended for 48 hours.  This step, officials say, is intended to prevent misuse of social media platforms and messaging services to spread rumours or incite communal disharmony.

Security forces — including police, Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), and the Rapid Action Force (RAF) — have been deployed across four districts: Bareilly, Shahjahanpur, Pilibhit, and Budaun.  Drones are also being used for aerial surveillance in sensitive areas
