Bangladeshi Hindu Man Robbed, Murdered and Set on Fire and Three Arrested in Dhaka

Desk Correspondent , Dhaka - A 35-year-old Hindu man, Khokon Chandra Das, was brutally murdered and his body set on fire in Bangladesh’s Shariatpur district, leading to the arrest of three individuals. The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) announced on Sunday that the suspects were apprehended in the Demra area of the capital. Khokon, who had recently returned from the Middle East, was allegedly targeted for the cash and gold he brought back. According to the police, the killers first strangled him to death and then set his body ablaze using petrol in an attempt to hide his identity and destroy evidence.

The investigation revealed that the prime suspect was an acquaintance who knew about Khokon's recent return and the valuables in his possession. Following the murder, the suspects fled to Dhaka with stolen gold ornaments and a significant amount of cash. During the raid, police recovered the victim's mobile phone and some of the looted items. The brutal nature of the crime—specifically the attempt to burn the body—has sparked outrage among the local community and human rights activists, who are calling for a fast-track trial to ensure justice for the victim's family.

This incident comes amid a period of heightened sensitivity regarding the safety of minorities in Bangladesh. While the police have categorized this specific case as a "murder for gain" or robbery, the extreme violence used has added to the existing concerns of the Hindu community. The arrested suspects have reportedly confessed to their involvement in the crime during preliminary questioning. Authorities have assured that they are conducting a thorough probe to determine if any other individuals were involved in the planning or execution of the gruesome killing.
