Jaipur — At least 11 people, including seven children and four women, died and eight others were injured in a road accident in Rajasthan’s Dausa district early Tuesday morning. Police said the victims were pilgrims from Uttar Pradesh’s Etah district, returning from visits to Khatu Shyam and Salasar Balaji temples.
The incident took place near Bapi village on the Dausa–Manoharpur highway when a pickup van carrying around 20 passengers rammed into a stationary trailer truck between 4 and 5 a.m. One of the injured later died in hospital, raising the death toll to 11.
Emergency services rushed to the site, and the injured were taken to Dausa District Hospital. Those in critical condition were later referred to Sawai Man Singh Hospital in Jaipur for advanced treatment. Authorities said initial evidence suggests low visibility and possible driver fatigue may have contributed to the crash.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma expressed grief over the loss of lives and directed officials to ensure immediate medical care for the injured. Senior district and police officers visited the spot to oversee rescue and investigation efforts.
The victims’ bodies are being sent to their hometowns after post-mortem examinations. Police have registered a case and are verifying details about the trailer truck’s parking position and safety compliance.
This incident highlights ongoing concerns over highway safety in Rajasthan, where a combination of night travel, overloading, and roadside vehicle stoppages continues to pose significant risks to passengers and pilgrims.
