Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced Friday that 39 alleged Bangladeshi infiltrators, including women, children, and men, were "pushed back with precision" from the Sribhumi district to their home country. Sarma posted on 'X' that they "entered without permission," declaring, "We will hunt down every illegal infiltrator and send them back to their origins. Assam is NOT your breeding ground". This action follows the repatriation of 51 Bangladeshi nationals from Sribhumi within 48 hours just last month.
The state government is intensifying detection and deportation under the Immigrants (Expulsion from Assam) Act, 1950, having approved a new Standard Operating Procedure in September. Sarma noted that over 30,000 illegal migrants have been "pushed back" from Assam, with this number expected to increase significantly under the new policy. He highlighted that most migrants enter Northeast India via Tripura, paying up to ₹20,000 per person to international broker networks, some of whom have been arrested.
