Ananya Lohia , New Delhi - The Assam government has launched a time-bound rehabilitation plan as floodwaters continue to recede across the state. While many displaced residents are returning home, the flood death toll has risen to 82, with more than two lakh people still affected.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the government's immediate focus is on restoring normal life by repairing damaged schools, Anganwadi centres, Naam Ghars and other public infrastructure. A comprehensive damage assessment will begin on August 7, while flood-affected schools are expected to reopen by August 10. The government has also released ₹7.62 crore to replace damaged school uniforms and books.

The state will provide ₹15,000 financial assistance to affected families by August 5, followed by another ₹10,000 on August 10. Electricity bills for July and annual property tax have been waived in flood-hit districts. Insurance companies have also agreed to simplify claim settlements for damaged vehicles, livestock and other insured property.

As floodwaters continue to recede, the Assam government is shifting its focus from emergency relief to long-term rehabilitation. Authorities hope the recovery measures will help affected families rebuild their lives and restore normalcy in the flood-hit regions.
