Ananya Lohia , Assam - The death toll from the devastating floods in Assam has climbed to 47 after six more people lost their lives, while over 6.5 lakh people continue to be affected across 11 districts.

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), the floods have submerged 939 villages under 40 revenue circles, with Sivasagar emerging as the worst-hit district. Heavy rainfall has also caused widespread waterlogging in parts of Guwahati, while rising water levels in the Brahmaputra and its tributaries continue to worsen the situation.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma described the situation as "serious" and said the floods were triggered by a cloudburst in neighbouring Nagaland. He added that Union Home Minister Amit Shah has assured the deployment of an inter-ministerial team to assess the damage and support relief efforts.

Rescue and relief operations are continuing as authorities remain on high alert, with fears that the flood situation could deteriorate further in the coming days.
