Union Home Minister Amit Shah strongly criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Parliament while debating a bill that proposes the removal of a Prime Minister or Chief Minister if convicted and jailed. Shah said the Congress party’s sudden shift in stance on political morality was a result of its three consecutive defeats in national elections.
He accused Rahul Gandhi of trying to frame laws based on political convenience rather than democratic principles. Shah argued that the bill was designed to target opponents selectively and questioned why the Congress had not pushed for similar measures when it was in power.
Rahul Gandhi, during the debate, defended the bill by saying that leaders facing serious criminal charges should not continue to hold high office. He maintained that accountability must apply equally, regardless of position or political influence.
The sharp exchange between the two leaders added to the heated atmosphere in Parliament. While the government benches rallied behind Shah’s attack, the Opposition accused the ruling party of avoiding a serious discussion on corruption and accountability.
The bill is likely to face further scrutiny as it moves forward, with both camps preparing for an intense political battle over its implications.
Mukesh Khanna’s call to replace “Jana Gana Mana” with “Vande Mataram” has sparked debate over India’s national symbols and the history behind them.
PM Modi warned against what he called “dimaagi Naxals,” urging their identification and isolation, while the Congress criticised the remarks as politically motivated.
