Ananya Lohia , New Delhi - Former India batter Ajinkya Rahane has announced his retirement from all formats of cricket, bringing the curtain down on a remarkable 17-year career. The 38-year-old made the announcement through an emotional video, saying the time was right to move on.

Rahane represented India across all three formats after making his international debut in 2011. He scored 5,077 runs in 85 Tests, 2,962 runs in 90 ODIs and 375 runs in 20 T20Is, establishing himself as one of India's most dependable Test batters. He also led India to a historic Test series victory in Australia in 2020-21, including the memorable Gabba triumph, after taking over the captaincy in Virat Kohli's absence.

Known for his calm temperament and resilience, Rahane played several memorable knocks, including centuries at Lord's, Melbourne and Wellington. His final appearance for India came in the 2023 Test against the West Indies, while his last competitive outing was for Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2026 IPL. In his farewell message, Rahane thanked the BCCI, Mumbai Cricket Association, teammates, coaches, family and fans for supporting him throughout his journey.

With his retirement, Indian cricket bids farewell to one of its finest Test batters and a leader whose contributions, especially in overseas conditions, will be remembered for years to come.
