All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi has alleged that Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal district is being specifically targeted by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) for political reasons.
Speaking at a public meeting, Owaisi said that the region has become a focus of the ruling party’s strategy ahead of upcoming elections. He claimed that BJP-RSS were attempting to polarize communities by repeatedly drawing attention to Sambhal.
Owaisi criticized the ruling dispensation for what he described as “divisive tactics,” arguing that such narratives are detrimental to communal harmony. He also appealed to the public to remain united and not fall prey to political agendas.
The Hyderabad MP further said that his party would continue to raise issues of minorities and marginalized groups in Uttar Pradesh, including questions of employment, education, and security. “Our fight is for justice and equality, not hatred,” Owaisi told the gathering.
While his remarks drew support from AIMIM workers, BJP leaders dismissed the allegations as politically motivated. Party representatives said that the government’s development agenda in Sambhal and other regions was inclusive and not aimed at any community.
Sambhal, located in western Uttar Pradesh, has seen sharp political contestation in recent years, with multiple parties seeking to consolidate their influence. Owaisi’s comments come at a time when opposition parties are intensifying criticism of the BJP’s policies in the state.
