Abhishek vs Sooryavanshi: The Eliminator Battle That Could Decide SRH vs RR

Ananya Lohia , Chandigarh - It's do-or-die night in New Chandigarh as Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals clash in the IPL 2026 Eliminator, with one team’s title dream ending tonight. The spotlight firmly falls on the explosive opener battle between Abhishek Sharma and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi — two of the most destructive batters of the season.

Both batters have crossed the 560-run mark this season at strike rates above 200, but the difference lies in how their runs shape the match. Sooryavanshi has dominated the powerplay, scoring 430 of his 583 runs inside the first six overs. His aggressive starts have often given RR momentum, but not always victories. That pattern was visible in the two league meetings between the sides. In Hyderabad, Sooryavanshi fell for a golden duck and RR collapsed as SRH secured a commanding 57-run win. In Jaipur, the young RR opener produced a sensational 37-ball century — arguably one of the best knocks of IPL 2026 — but SRH still chased down the target comfortably with nine balls to spare.  The reason lies in SRH’s batting depth. While Sooryavanshi’s impact is mostly limited to the powerplay, while Abhishek contributes across all phases of the innings. His ability to continue deep into the innings gives SRH a stronger platform for finishers like Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen to attack freely.

SRH also enter the Eliminator with a strong bowling unit led by Pat Cummins. Cummins has been one of the most economical bowlers in the middle overs this season, while Eshan Malinga and Sakib Hussain have provided consistent support with their depth bowling attack. For RR, much will depend on how quickly they can strike back with the ball. Jofra Archer remains their biggest weapon against SRH’s aggressive top order, especially against Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma in the powerplay.

The Eliminator may revolve around the battle between Abhishek Sharma and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, but the bigger picture currently favours SRH. Rajasthan Royals need Sooryavanshi to dominate and Abhishek to fail if they are to gain control. Because when Sooryavanshi blasted a stunning century earlier this season, Abhishek answered back — and SRH still walked away winners.
