Ananya Lohia , Patna - Young batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has set an ambitious goal for himself — becoming the first player in cricket history to score a double century in T20 cricket. The 15-year-old revealed that he wants to break Chris Gayle’s long-standing record of 175, which remains the highest individual score in T20 cricket.
Speaking to Kevin Pietersen on the latest episode of The Switch, Sooryavanshi confidently declared his intention to score 200 in a T20 match. When Pietersen reminded him about Gayle’s unbeaten 175 for Royal Challengers Bengaluru during the 2013 IPL season, the teenager replied, “Yeah, I want to break his record and score 200. If I play 20 overs in any game, I definitely will break that record.” The youngster has already produced several remarkable knocks in his short career. He scored 190 for Bihar in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and smashed 175 in the Under-19 World Cup final. His highest T20 score currently stands at 144.
In the ACC Men’s U19 Asia Cup against the UAE last year, Sooryavanshi also registered the joint third-fastest T20 century by an Indian, placing him alongside players like Rishabh Pant and Abhishek Sharma. He further grabbed attention with a stunning 143 against England U19, reaching his century in just 52 balls — the fastest hundred in Youth ODI cricket history. Drawing comparisons with cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, who became the first batter to score a double century in ODI cricket back in 2010, Sooryavanshi now hopes to create a similar milestone in the T20 format.
With fearless batting, record-breaking performances and immense confidence at just 15, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is rapidly emerging as one of Indian cricket’s brightest young stars. As he continues to develop his game, the teenager now has his eyes firmly set on creating history by becoming the first batter ever to score 200 in T20 cricket.
