Swapna Kumbar , Bengaluru - Assam’s flood death toll has risen to 41 after 10 more deaths were reported, with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma saying the damage is far worse than initially expected. He said bodies are still being recovered from affected districts as rescue and relief efforts continue.

The latest flood bulletin shows the crisis has expanded across large parts of the state, with lakhs of people affected, villages submerged and several districts still under water. Officials said many areas remain inaccessible, which is delaying a full assessment of the damage and may push the toll higher. Sarma warned that the situation could worsen further because more rain is forecast over the next three to four days. The India Meteorological Department has also issued alerts for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, raising the risk of fresh flooding, landslides and disruption across Assam.

The new deaths underline how severe and fast-moving Assam’s flood crisis has become. With more rain expected and recovery operations still underway, the state faces a difficult few days ahead.
