Rajasthan Minister Sparks Outrage With Divine Intervention Claim Amidst Balotra Floods
A contentious statement by Minister K.K. Vishnoi, who attributed recent heavy rains in Rajasthan's Barmer district to the Chief Minister's prayers to Lord Krishna, has drawn widespread criticism. Local Congress members have denounced his remarks as irresponsible, arguing they deflect accountability from the region's acute and ongoing water pollution crisis.
Despite the minister's claims, the real source of distress for Balotra's villages is persistent flooding from the Jojari river. This river is heavily burdened with untreated industrial waste from Jodhpur and Pali, and during the monsoon, it invariably overflows, submerging homes, villages, and vital farmlands with contaminated water. This has led to severe health and livelihood concerns among the local populace.
Local Congress MLA Harish Choudhary has been vocal in his condemnation of the BJP government, stressing that divine intervention is not a viable solution to what is fundamentally a man-made pollution disaster. He emphatically stated that attempting to shift the responsibility for a man-made crisis to gods is "ridiculous".
Residents, who experience persistent problems, have been staging repeated protests, urgently calling for stricter regulations and concrete industrial waste management measures. They highlight the glaring absence of viable interventions to mitigate this environmental disaster, demanding tangible action over spiritual explanations.
