TikTok and Reddit in Hot Water: UK Cracks Down on Child Data Exploitation

London - The UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has launched an investigation into TikTok and Reddit over their handling of children's personal data. With increasing concerns over online safety, this move signals a major crackdown on how tech giants collect and use data from young users.

The probe specifically looks into whether TikTok’s algorithm unfairly targets users aged 13-17 and whether Reddit has sufficient age verification measures. If violations are found, both platforms could face massive fines and stricter regulations.

This investigation reflects growing global concerns about children's online privacy. Governments worldwide are struggling to keep up with rapidly evolving digital platforms, where young users are often exposed to potential risks, from data misuse to inappropriate content. Critics argue that social media companies prioritize profits over user protection, while tech giants maintain they are working on improving safety measures.

With parents and regulators demanding greater accountability, this case could set a precedent for future internet regulations. Will TikTok and Reddit emerge unscathed, or is this the beginning of a new era of tech scrutiny?
