Deported Dreams: The Human Cost of U.S.-India Immigration Crackdown

Washington D.C. - In a stark manifestation of tightened immigration policies, the United States has deported approximately 1,100 Indian nationals in the fiscal year 2024. This surge in repatriations underscores the escalating collaboration between Washington and New Delhi to curb illegal migration.  

The recent deportations have ignited a political firestorm in India. Opposition lawmakers have vehemently protested the alleged mistreatment of deportees, disrupting parliamentary proceedings and demanding accountability from the government. Reports of deportees being transported in handcuffs and leg chains on U.S. military planes have fueled public outrage, with many questioning the government's role in safeguarding the dignity of its citizens abroad.  

This development coincides with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's upcoming visit to Washington, where he is slated to meet President Donald Trump.
